Hello,

#En New user on Hubzilla, I created an account on the instance https://hub.thechangebook.org. / #Fr Nouvel utilisateur sur Hubzilla, j'ai créé un compte sur l'instance https://hub.thechangebook.org.

While I am able to follow accounts on other instances, such as hubzilla and diaspora, I have two problems. / Alors que j'arrive à suivre des comptes sur d'autres instances, hubzilla et diaspora notamment, je rencontre deux problèmes.

Problem / Problème 1 :
When one wants to connect an account created on the instance = Channel discovery failed. / Lorsqu'on souhaite lier un compte créé sur l'instance = La tentative d'accéder au canal a échoué.

Problem / Problème 2 :
When you want to send a message to a user of the "local" hubzilla instance = Unable to lookup recipient. / Quand on veut envoyer un message à un utilisateur de l'instance "locale" hubzilla = Impossible de trouver le destinataire.

What can the admin do to solve these two problems? / Que peut faire l'admin pour résoudre ces deux problèmes ?

We've seen this a couple of times in the past. The first time it was caused by Let's Encrypt creating their own .well-known directory for cert creation/renewal and blocking access to it.

That one doesn't seem to be a problem at your site.

The next time we saw it was when somebody tried to setup an SSL proxy to their site and the local site wasn't going through the proxy to get to itself.

Another problem, possibly related to the other two, is that the directory of users of the instance is empty when there are registered users. / #Fr - Merci de votre réponse. Un autre problème, peut-être lié aux deux autres, l'annuaire des utilisateurs de l'instance est vide alors qu'il y a des inscrits.

You may have setup your server just before we changed the global directory server.

From a shell in the top level of your site:

util/config system.directory_server https://hub.netzgemeinde.eu

You can also set this on the admin/site page.

Fresh install of 4.4.1:
> admin/site page has no option to set system.directory_server
> admin/site option is set to 'my site is not a public server
> admin/site option is set to 'force publish'

@ Hubzilla webroot:
util/config system.directory_server '' (also tried https://me)
util/config system directory_mode DIRECTORY_MODE_STANDALONE

Issues:
> no channel entries in Directory, ever
> selecting Directory/This Site Only = no -> results in the directory populated with external profiles/channels. This is (persistently) fixed by deleting master/fallback directory servers in boot.php

New user here; have been installing/deleting hubzilla for a week trying to remedy the directory issues, and am now seeking help. All other features work as expected except the directory. Desired config is off-the-grid, private members only with no public access in or out.

Closely followed the installation requirements (ie register_argc_argv=On) and SSL is also working as expected using a LetsEncrypt *.cert manually installed.

Everything is working locally, via internet and on mobile, except the Directory.

Where have I gone wrong?, please and thankyou.

Internet -> (nginx reverse-proxy with SSL on CentOS6 VM/ ESXi6.7U3) -> (Hubzilla on a Ubuntu 18.04 VM)

The constant DIRECTORY_MODE_STANDALONE is available with Hubzilla scripts but isn't available to shell commands. Its value is 256.

Ergo:
util/config system.directory_mode 256

I think you can leave system.directory_server blank, but I noticed on my standalone site it is set to the site URL and this has been set for several years so I can't say for certain if it is necessary or not without doing further research.

Before -> myURL/dirsearch = false, "This site is not a directory server"
After -> myURL/dirsearch = true, 2 records became visible after modifying their profiles

However: still no records displayed @ myURL/directory

I may have run up against a known issue:

When a directory server goes down, no way to list local profiles (#1338) · Issues · hubzilla / core

When a directory server is unavailable, then viewing the /directory doesn't list *any* profiles whatsoever, even local profiles, or profiles that the local hub already knows about. It should *always*...

Cycled the admin/security "Block public" onoffswitch to 'off' and Directory is now working as expected.
